Domaine de Saumarez is a small high-quality vineyard in the south of France. It was acquired in 2004 by Liz and Robin Williamson with the aim of making top-quality red, white and rosé wines.
The domaine is located around the historical village of Murviel-les-Montpellier, in the small foothills 15 minutes to the west of Montpellier. The surrounding hills are covered in olive groves and vineyards with views stretching to the Mediterranean. Wine has been made in these hills since pre-roman times and several of our parcels are located inside the walls of Murviels’ pre-roman fortified hill town.
When we were searching for a vineyard, our main criteria were to search for a quality “terroir”. By this we mean soils and vineyard sites with a potential to give top quality fruit. We take great care in making wines that represent the complexity of our terroir whilst bringing out the best of each grape variety.
