S’ 2006 Red Coteaux du Languedoc
S’ red – The S’ red is a blend of grenache and syrah which combine to give a full-flavoured wine exploding with flavours of rich red fruit with a hint of oak. It is a versatile wine that reflects the sunny Mediterranean climate.
Varieties: 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah
Terroir: Our parcels are all on rocky well-draining slopes. They are made up of a mix of quartz, schist, granite and marl formed during the Jurassic period.
Yield: 35 hl/ha
Vinification: The grapes were picked by hand into small containers and were destemmed before being put into concrete tanks. The wines were fermented for 3 to 5 weeks and short daily pumping-over ensured a good extraction of the phenolic material. In order to soften the tannins, the wines were aged for 1 year, 45% in tank and 55% in second hand French oak barrels of various sizes.
Tasting note: The wine is dark ruby. The nose is overt with aromas of prunes, leather, truffles and white pepper dominating. The wine has good acidity and tannins which support flavours of ripe dark fruit, spicy fruitcake, truffles and white pepper. The wine is good with strong grilled or roast meat, and spicy dishes. Also available in magnum.
